Not sure what colour this horse is

Post by shandy_x »

Quaint Frog 32 030

So the colouring on this horse is a bit strange I would say, initially I named it Grullo Tobiano with stripes, but upon further research I think it might be some form of Dun? I'm not sure which though.

Silver Buckskin Grullo Tobiano is his color I believe.

You're correct in thinking that the stripes are dun. They are. :D

So this horse has the silver gene (the silver mane and tail give it away).
This horse is on a brown base (the tinted nose and stomach make note of that).
This horse also has the cream gene (the tint of the nose and stomach is gold, rather than red).
And there is also pangare aka mealy (the flank is lighter than the surrounding color).

So your horse is a silver smoky brown dun pangare with tobiano.

Your horse may likely father palominos and buckskins as well as double creams when paired with certain mares.

In addition to what BlackOak said, I wanted to mention that grullo is dun, just on a black base. Black Dun and Grullo/Grulla are the same thing. :)
