Note how this is different from my farm log - the farm log I am keeping specifically for whatever updates, news, general communication and all sorts of other things: preferred contact is through the farm log. This thread, however, is purposed as an organised record of all projects in (hopefully) a neat and concise manner.

Each post will be relevant to a single project. More in depth information on each project will be found on my farm log. Each post will include an overview of the project, the initial starting point, major benchmarks, interesting points and more. (It must be noted though, not all projects will be 'published'.

Overarching Goal: To create a line of Australian Horses (Brumby, Stock, Pony and Draft) from scratch, and to improve those lines to become competitive in relevant areas. Ideally, to become the dominant "Brand" on HWO for all things Australian. (there.. I said it )

Goal: To break the Endurance Record using a line of hoses bred by Royale from the AC centre without using external stock.

Scrapping previous project based on Turks, switched to NABS. Selected 3 Mares and 3 Stallions (all AC Stock) to begin this project. Training them, then will produce 2 foals from each possible combination, maybe more pending on ratio of males:females. Created table of summary below per generation. Project #6: Top Ranking Horses Chart.

This project - could - perhaps be considered complete, but I wanted to add it anyhow. I think perhaps it was also my first real "project" I ever began.

Aim/Goal: To get a horse on the "top ranking horses" Chart.

Now, I can safely say I have a very horrible horse currently sitting in Position 7: Why Horrible? Just take a look at his % win rates.. no, hes okay. He reached his purpose, and for that i'm glad

Project #7: Basic Breed Improvement in 6 Generations

well, let's say that I already wrote a whole heap on this project but decided that it was little more than rambling, so, i'm starting over.

Project Goal: To gain Experiance in a) improving breeding lines b) being able to determine what a "good" and "bad" foal looks like and c) to be part of ** amazing compatition.
The Project: To start with AC horses, and improve them as much as possible, up to 6 generations on.

a couple of other points:
- I am listing details of the genes, the horses, but only the ones that i didn't cull... otherwise, this post would be 50X the length.


My Journal:

Generation 0:
ACTIONS:
- Selected 3 x Arabian Mares from Adoption Centre
- Selected 3 x Arabian Studs from Adoption Centre
- The current average HGP of the horses currantly stands at 32,117 (Highest: 32,648)
NOTES:
A) Chose Arabians over other breeds for two reasons. 1.) they are the breed that i have (so far) had the most experiance with. and 2.) As far as my experiance goes, I have found that the arabian is more "rounded" in their stats in comparison to other horses. this way, hopefully, I wont still be stuck with red stats by generation 6.
B) Didnt worry too much about looks, but did avoid the graying genes, and went for the slightly stockier horses. call it a hunch, if you like. Chose darker colors where possible as they are my favourite right now.
THE HORSES:



Generation 1:
ACTIONS
- Bred Each of the Generation 0 Studs to Each Generation Mare 3 times.
- Resulted in 27 foals.
- Measured Each foals HGP against both parents, gave a score of "Green" if better than both parents, "Yellow" if better than one parent or "red" if worse than both.
- Any "Red" were eliminated. (8 foals, 19 remain.)
- Analysed Each Foals breeders report and Conformation Statistics against both parents, decided if each gene improved or was weaker.
- analysed if each foal was an OVERALL improvement or weakness against the parents.
- did not record/monitor inteligance stat.
- Resulted in the "selection" of 2 mares and 6 stallions.
- HGP Average for generation 1 horses stands at 33,444 (Highest: 34,542)
- Only 1 horses did not have a red strength stat.
RESULT: 2 Mares, 6 Stallions. Average HGP = 33,444.
THE HORSES:



Generation 2:
ACTIONS
- Bred Each of the generation 1 Stallions to each generation 1 mare 3x each.
- 36 foals. Used same process as before.
- 18 foals eliminated due to a lower HGP than both parents.
- 8 mares selected to keep
- 6 stallions selected to keep
NOTES
- one of the "mares" was actually a stallion, so resulted in having 7 mares and 7 stallions.
- if i was to breed them as per the previous pattern (3 times per stud.) = 21 years. add breeding age = a minimage age of 24. not all horses would survive that long.
- HGP didnt improve very much at all. (but did increase) the average now standing at 33,584
THE HORSES:



Generation 3:
ACTIONS
- bred each of the generation 2 studs to each generation 2 mare either 2 or 3 times (age/time difficulty)
- resulted in more than 100 horses (inaccuracy explained below)

NOTES
- Halfway through project (almost) so wanted to focus on removing red stats. most foals had red strength.
- had one or two foals with green intelligance..
- although in the reporting, the "analysing" process has been skipped over, only giving the overall results, it took hours and was very tedious. each stat of every horse had to be recorded in a table, than compared against the parents. by the time i got to the 90th foal in this generation, i started culling any horse that had a "code red" HGP level. the calculation of foals is not as simple as 2xstuds x all mares x 3 + remaining studs x 2 x all mares because: a) reason for 3 sessions was an error in choosing stud. wanted to ony do two sessions so horses didnt age so much. however, some mares did "retire" before they could give birth to all foals.
- i wanted to refine my heard as much as possible, and keep the number below 100. after all, i'm not monitoring COI, + the end result is ony for 1 horse. so:
- STEP ONE: eliminate all horses with a red strength stat. (only 27 horses remained.)
- STEP TWO: eliminate all horses with a code red HGP code (worse than both parents) only 18 horses remained.
- STEP THREE: analysed the remanining horses same as generations above, kept 12 horses.
RESULT:
- 5 x mares (very happy with them so far)
- 7 stallions. (happy with about 2 of them, the rest *shrugs* we'll see.
- Average HGP: 34,152
- Current Highest HGP: 35,939
- and that, my friends is where I am up to.

Distinguishing features: Australian Stock Horses are renowned for their endurance, agility, bravery and good temperament. They are extremely surefooted and strong, with a natural aptitude for cattle work and incredible versatility – they’re known as ‘the breed for every need’. Stock Horses can stand anywhere from 14 to 16.2 hands high and can be any colour. Their large eyes are intelligent and alert and their overall build is well-proportioned and athletic. They have a long, slender neck, sloping shoulders, powerful hindquarters and strong, slender legs with clean bone and joints. Their broad forehead, large nostrils, deep chest and well-sprung ribs allow smooth passage of air to the lungs and their hard hooves can withstand wear on challenging, stony terrain.

- Arabians appear natively good at Endurance, so use them as the base line
- focus on keeping color
- stamina improvement is key, speed agility and tempo also necessary
- keep an eye on overall size and performance.
