You figure out what competition your horse would do best in (using the stat colors helps). Once you find it, you enter it into any competitions of that sector as you can. Eventually you'll get a champ

0. The horse has to win "Competitions", not Local Shows. You need to pay an entry fee which ranges from $1 to, srsly, $999,999,999 -- be very careful what you click on, this fee cannot be refunded.

1. Look at this posting.

http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... =3&t=11683

It gives lists of the traits that are judged in each of 22 kinds of events in Competitions. These event categories are called Discipline/s. It also lists the points needed for the various Championships, from 200 for "Champion" to 10,000 for "Supreme Master Grand Champion."

Training your horse in the traits listed on the Breeder's Report -- Agility, Balance, Intelligence, Movement, Speed, Stamina, Strength, and Tempo -- improves its skills (just as taking courses improves a Player), and can make a critical difference in winning any competition. Some players focus their training on the attributes needed for a single discipline. People who train horses for a fee (see the Community/General Chit-Chat/topics that mention "training") will train all 8.

Other factors include the animal's inherent abilities as indicated by the Breeder's Report* (also, if you get Premium status, Conformation Report) and its overall build. Endurance horses are usually Horse type, Light or Horse type, Very Light. The same is true of speed events, especially Racing, Sprint Racing, and Harness Racing. Strength requires a far different set of body proportions: for example, Log Pull champs are often Belgian or other draft breeds, described as Pony, Heavy, or Pony, Very Heavy.

*This is what an earlier post meant by "colors". A comment in the Breeder's Report marked in Red means the horse is very deficient in that trait. Green is very good and Gold is excellent.

Breed-specific competitions are only open to horses that are at least 96% of that breed. Restrictions particular to the Discipline also apply. In this game, there are tiny Arabians which can compete in In-Hand Jumping, limited in height from 15" to 9.0 h. Harnessed events including Driven Dressage, Marathon Driving, Obstacle Driving, Harness Racing, and Log Pull are open to most of the adult horse population, 15" to 21.3 h. Ridden events -- not harnessed or In-Hand -- are limited from 9.0 h to 21.3 h.

Only a few extremely experienced trainers can train a horse to 100% in any trait. Most can get to 99%.

Putting some of this together, look at "Rankings" (sidebar again) and then select a discipline. Click Show Horses and you will get a current list of top winners. Look at their Profiles. Many will have 99% training in all 8 traits. The top Racing horses will have Gold Speed; the top Endurance (listed under Racing but it's not a speed event) have Gold Stamina, etc.

2. There are two ways to enter your horse in "Competitions".

2a. On an individual horse's Profile page, there is a clickable box on the right side, just below "Horse Genetic Potential", that's labeled Find Upcoming Competitions. This is specific to that horse. Example: if you have a 4-year-old mare, it will not list anything restricted to males, or to age ranges that don't include 4 years. If she has never competed she can enter any level of competition and there is no show record on the Profile. Entering any Competition produces a record. Winning points in a Competition can raise the Level from 1 to possibly as high as 10. If your horse is Level 3, you can enter it in Level 3 all the way up to Level 10 (any horse can enter Level 10), but not 1 or 2.

2b. The left-hand sidebar of any HWO page has "Competitions", and the listings in there can be applied to any horse on your farm. Go there, select "Upcoming Events", then choose the discipline and level. You'll get a box that says "Select a Horse to Enter" -- then you'll get a list of "All Horses" on your farm. This list is sorted by all your barn/s or pasture/s and you can select which enclosure. This is why some people sort their show horses into enclosures named "Competitors", "Show Horses", etc. This is important if you want to enter a 20-year-old. Nominally Competitions are open to, at maximum, ages 1 to 20. But! The Profile Page refuses to list any events for 20 year old horses! (At least with my old Firefox browser.) Twenty-year-old horses do appear in, and can be entered from, the Upcoming Events lists.

Still here? You win the Scythian Endurance Championship!

Go for Supreme Master Grand -- read the Help topics.

Good luck, and click safely! :D

Gold and green tells you that the horse is better in those then the rest of the stats. Otherwise, click the link that Scythian gives first, and that will help.

Showtym Champ GIrl

GOOD: all Western (Barrel Racing, Cutting, Pole Bending, Reining, Western Pleasure, Western Trail, Working Ranch)
English under saddle (Cross Country, Dressage, Hunter, Saddleseat, Show Jumping)
all Driving (Driven Dressage, Marathon Driving, and Obstacle Driving)

NOT:
Log Pull (she's not a Belgian and her Conformation Analysis number for this trait is weirdly low. When asked, Admin has told players that the Breeder's Report is the authority, but that a low Conformation number can mean that the horse will not show as much Strength -- or whichever -- as the words say.)

Racing events (she doesn't look like a Thoroughbred, Deliboz, or Arabian, and those are the ones who win)

She's lovely and promising, and should have a nice career.

Best wishes :D,
Scythian
