A Beautiful morning awaits me
I see the sunrise out of my window
I run out, for my horses I must see
And I turn them out on a soft meadow

I catch my favorite, a painted mare
I halter her and take her to the barn
I groom her carefully, with loving care
Her frail frame had almost no sign of carne

I remember that horrid day to well
When we bought the poor, abused, starving horse
The Center said that the mares name was Bell
I had cried much for her, my voice was coarse

“There there, little girl” I had said to her
“Now you will be forever safe from them”

Freestyle -

Horse
Wild, Free
Galloping, Racing, Singing
Fierce for their homelands
Freedom
Thanks for your entry. The quoted poems are the ones I have selected.

The Bully

Cement encases the very breath seeking escape
soundless attempt ,numbing in it's silence,

Hopeless grasping as hands fail to seek refuge
fingers unfurling , torn bits of paper sticking like glue,

Hurtful words stabbing like shards of glass
Print entwining with infinite intensity ,

Useless , stupid, ugly, a despised thing
Truth in the lips snarling repetitive taunts,

Impotent fury at being judged and found wanting
Pride shatters as my mind gasps in agreement,

And so I will accept my punishment in scraps of wrinkled text
Guilty of existing , breathing ,feeling and being,

This is what you have fought so hard to accomplish
Hours spent striving to break , bully and torture ,

Rising from the blindness of contempt, I now understand
Your self-hatred , insecurities and unspoken abuses,

Unasked for miseries molding the mind-set of bullying
Bearing no hate, I love myself and for you, for you I feel pity.

Haiku

Shaky hands, deer tracks in snow
Casting votes, one voice heard
Fights won and lost, freedom

Haiku

Equality , sameness , uniqueness
Embracing differances
Killing hate, birthing love

I'm hoping to get in a freestyle entry before the deadline, but I might run out of time. So, here's my sonnet in the meantime:

Equus

a roll of living thunder crests the hills
this sudden storm of air and rumbling ground
much like an angry ocean wave it spills
into the valley with a fearsome sound

it seems the very earth has formed this squall
with skin of river clay thirsting for rain
and shards of stone striking in constant spall
rush of bones and blood and motion strain

though made of earth and by its hand they live
while seasons fade after they've spend their rage
while stones yet break and to the sea their bodies give
these beasts endure beyond the pall of age

under the bite of ice and seething sun
ever are honed, and grow, and proud will run
