Classic Cream?

Post by EclipticEnd »

I took a bit of time away from Champagne and I've forgotten how to tell them apart. I'm assuming this is a Metallic Classic Cream Blanket? Any confirmation or correction is much appreciated.

Now that I have some free time I've gone through her in more depth. Here's what I've got to the best of my ability. please let me know if I'm right or if I messed up somewhere. I was uncertain and made guesses at multiple points because this line goes into the Silver Champagnes which I don't at all know as well as into territory where horses weren't pictured for multiple generations, so I'm sure something's probably wrong.

Foal: |ɘ| Midnight Temptation || Classic Cream || (EE/aa/Crn/Chn)

Sire: Speckled midnight || Bay || (EE/Aa)
-Homozygous for Extention (Black); all foals seem to have at least one black gene
-Heterozygous for Agouti
-No Champagne, foal must be heterozygous

Dam: Honor From Temptation || Silver || (EE/aa/CrCr/Chn/Zn/Dd)
-1x Champagne
-1x Silver from dam possibly?
-1x Dun (from sire); has a Silver Smoky Brown Dun foal (Discreet Temptations), sire is Seal. 1x Cream, 1x Silver indicated minimum
-Tentatively 2x Cream
-Tentatively 2x Extension; I think all foals are black based

Granddam (Honor From Temptation): {O} Fiery Passion || Silver Classic Cream|| (Ee/aa/CrCr/Chn/Zn)
-1x Extension and Champagne gene at most (has a Palomino foal: re breeder)
-Foals don't seem to have Black, probably no Extension genes
-This means Agouti is unknown
-At least 1x cream gene (re breeder's sire is Chestnut)
-I think 1x Silver from dam?
-Tentatively 2x Cream

Grandsire (Honor From Temptation): Glittering Cry || Smoky Grulla Dun || (Ee/aa/Crn/Dd)
-At least one Extension gene
-No Agouti
-1x Cream from (probably) sire (Classic Cream)
-1x Dun from dam (Grulla)
-No Champagne, foal must be heterozygous

Great Granddam ({O} Fiery Passion): Snowy Passion || Silver Classic Cream || (EE/aa/Crn/Chn/Zn)
-At least 1x Extension: Black foal with Chestnut sire (unknown if Smoky Black; no foal picture). 1x Champagne. 1x Agouti max.
-Silver, tentatively. Silver Dapple foal with a Chestnut sire; couldn't immediately tell if from Chestnut or not. 1x Champagne. 1x Silver as she has a non-silver Black foal.
-Foal (Turtle) is Smoky Black (2x Cream on Black). Sire is a Palomino. 1x Champagne. Black and Cream from Snowy Passion.
-1x Silver; sire is homozygous

Great Grandsire ({O} Fiery Passion): ☘ Fast as fire || Varnished Palomino Blanket || (ee/aa/Crn)
-No Extension genes
-1x Cream gene
-Has a Black foal (Gosh Gusto), 1x Agouti max.
-Looks like all Black foals are no Agouti unless the mare has Agouti; probably 0 Agouti genes.
-No Extension nor Agouti genes passed to Fiery Passion, but possibly 1x Cream

2x Great Granddam (Snowy Passion): ~Ab~ Sycamore || Varnished Black Tobiano Snowcap? || (EE/aa)
-Not Champagne
-Difficult picture; she's in full Varnish and I cannot see her coloration underneath. Only one picture available.
-At least 1x Extension gene, no more than 1x Cream,1x Agouti: Black foal (Dazzled Avalanche) (not Smoky) (Sire is Palomino)
-1x Seal foal (AD | Minneapolis Midday); sire is Red Dun (1x Extension). Seal is either hidden in the sire (Has Buckskin ancestry) or else Sycamore is a Seal. I'm guessing it's from the sire; Sycamore's parents seem to be Black.
-I think sire is Bronzing Black; I don't see a tonal difference at the flank to indicate Seal
-I'm guessing dam was Black as well; pedigree is full of horses without pictures, and those with pictures are possibly Black (heavily patterned/varnished)
-All foals are possibly Black based. Tentatively marking Sycamore as homozygous Black
-No idea if there's Cream; tentatively saying no

2x Great Grandsire (Snowy Passion): S0S | Blossom || Pseudo White || (EE/aa/CrCr/Chn/ZZ)
-Homozygous for Silver
-Pseudo White; most probably 2x Cream
-Has a Mealy Silver Buckskin foal (Unnamed Horse #3550571) and dam is Chestnut, must be heterozygous for Champagne and have at least 1x Extension and Cream genes. Agouti inconclusive, but probably from the dam's side.
-Also has a Seal foal (S0S | Clyde); it's probably from the dam's line as the dam's paternal granddam carries it
-Tentatively 1 Agouti max; I think his foal HS Blossoms Snow is black based. I don't see tonal shading to indicate Seal or Bay and color seems pretty uniform.
-Tentatively decided no Agouti, homozygous Black

Wow!
Okay... I'm... not going to go into all of that! But I will look at sire, dame and horse in question. :D

Sire is definitely a bay and I'm going to suggest that there may be pangare there, but only because of the way his varnish appears to be fading. There is some indication that it may be in his line, but... I didn't look backward too far to determine if it's indeed a possibility or not. But I say it, because it's as if there was a pangare flushing, at once point, a fade already existent along his nose and flank.

Since the horse in question is definitely not just a single dilute, but doesn't quite look like a triple, double is the most likely candidate.

Dame is a triple dilute, but can only ever pass a single set onward, and will pass one on (at least a cream gene). Plus the single champagne. I'm really thinking she's a red base (she's too pink, in my opinion to be black-based and her mane/tail isn't the right silver color to be bay), so she'd be a cremello champagne and ... probably has dun, it really looks like the horse in question has dun (there is something with those ankles that makes me think it). Possibly carriers a hidden silver (but was not passed onward).
So I'm thinking that the horse in question is a double dilute with dun and on black. So, classic cream grullo.
Metallic would be at your discretion. So hard already to determine sometimes, so if you say it, I'll agree. :P
