Not dun, right?

Post by irishrose »

I'm trying to breed duns but on my phone, sometimes it's a little more difficult to see if they're dun or not. The following horses I'm fairly sure are NOT dun, but I want to double check before I sell them.

Unfortunately, we can have 'cryptic' dun parents throw visible dun offspring. So dun can be quite hard to spot.

You have two in this batch.

These two are duns, the first is cryptic variety, the second is a bit more visible. This black-lighter shading is from dun. Plus, the yearling photo on this black, shows the neck striping from dun much better than what she appears now.

These two:

In my opinion, are likely NOT duns.

I could suggest that you get rid of any cryptics that pop up in your breeding as well, because once cryptic is in your herd, it can also be difficult to breed strong duns.

Have you looked at my dun study yet? If you haven't, it could help your eye as you develop your ability to see duns on these... sometimes... less-than-obvious screens that we use. :)

If you have (I suspect you might've already), it does serve to revisit it, to reset your eye for seeing dun again.

They look good, overall though! A pretty set.

...And now I realize you've been playing for awhile already... I usually check that first.

Some of that may certainly be info you're already well aware of and you're just looking for a double-check. Anyway, there you have it. 8-)

I was away for a year or so and just came back maybe a week ago. I definitely need to refresh on some things. My old phone seemed to be easier to see dun on though. I'll probably put those cryptic duns in my "questionable" pen, see if I get something better to replace them with. Thank you for the help!
