Starting from scratch, how efficient?

Post by othynius »

Hello! I just had some questions regarding breeding from scratch. I had a good line but my main sires have been producing under 65k HGP (they are 69k+). So I've decided I might start from scratch. Is it possible to breed high HGP with just rescues?
Also kinda off topic but when you're breeding, is it more important to look at the red/green/gold stats or the HGP? Sometimes I'd get a high HGP but loose my gold stats.
Thank you!

It is possible to breed high HGP from AC horses. It may take you a looooonnnngggg time and lots of dedication when using AC stock, especially if you want it to be a private line witch means using only AC horses that have no porngy, and letting no horses from you line out, this makes you horses more value because no one else has anything to do with the horses, it also mean no out side studs.

If you go for high HGP you will start to get gold's and greens whether you want them or not. I suggest you go for the HGP and you will start to get gold and greens in time. Once you get high HGP it will be easier to breed for colors stats.

Hope this helps but if you need more info go look at this link

Breeding for high stat horses or for high HGP horses are a little separate from each other. As FantasyRanch3 said, starting from scratch can take awhile.
You said, 'Rescues'. Rescues wouldn't necessarily be 'from scratch'. From scratch, here on HWO, generally is defined as strictly AC stock.

Breeding for high HGP will always result in fluctuating stats. Some will go up, some will go down. Likewise, breeding solely for stats will result in a slightly fluctuating HGP. I say 'slightly' when breeding for stats, because as you breed for them, it will naturally bring up the HGP and seemingly make the HGP number jump in leaps and bounds.
There's a lot of room and movement when you start with AC stock (HGP ranging from 25,000 to 41,000) and you're looking to get up to the mid 65,000 range. But as for the stats, there may be only 10 total comments (notwithstanding the colored/non-colored combinations).

If breeding from scratch, you will generally climb about 7000 HGP and hold it steady every 3 generations. So when the third generation of AC-descended foals are born, you should be in the 37,000 to 41,000 range, if you start with stock in the 30,000 to 34,000 range.
Watch the drastic jump in stat or HGP foals. They don't tend to produce very well. You'll want to keep and prefer those that are on average just a bit better. Usually just a bit better than the same gender parent (fillies and mares OR colts and stallions).

If you're ready to take a dive into the HWO 'building a bloodline' deep end of the pool, take a look at the following link. However, you do not need it, to find success in breeding. It may help explain why you seem to've plateaued with your current stock.
