Stables and Pastures

What is their purpose?

Your farm needs to have either Barns (Stables) or Pastures to keep your horses in. There is a single pasture on your farm to start with, but as you own more horses you'll need to purchase more pastures or barns.

Which is better? Barns or Pastures?

Thats depends on your goals. Pastures are cheaper and provide free grass feed for your horses and they can be mowed to sell the hay, however you have far less control over what your horse is eating which could be a problem if you are training for competitions or trying to keep muscle on your horse as grass only provides basic nutrition.

In a barn you have complete control over what your horse eats every day however barns are much more expensive that pastures.

Future Plans: In a future update there will be additional benefits to both barns and pastures including:
  • Pasture breeding if mares are kept with stallions in a pasture
  • Potential for injuries in overly active horses kept in pastures
  • Poorer health in horses kept in barns without additional turnout time (Turnout time is also a feature coming in the future)

How do I get a new barn or pasture?

Barns and Pastures are available for sale in the Market. Click on 'Market', then 'Farm Building' in the nagivation panel.

  1. Purchase the barn or pasture of your choice
  2. Go to your farm page and click on 'Toggle Build Mode' to activate the Build Mode
  3. Click on the new button 'Add From Inventory' to add a barn, pasture or decoration from your Inventory to your farm
If you receive an error that you farm needs to be expanded
  1. Close the Inventory window
  2. Click on the 'Edit My Farm' tab under 'My Farm'
  3. Find the 'Expand My Farm' section
  4. Expand either the Depth or the Width to increase the size of your farm and allow for more barns/pastures to be built, then try adding the building again

Mowing Hay in Pastures

The grass growing in your pastures can be mowed and sold as hay. This reduces the 'Quality' of your pasture until the grass grows back however sometimes this is benefitial. In the horses in your pasture are getting too fat then you can try mowing it partially to reduce how much grass is available for your horses to eat. They grass will grow back over time but if you have a lot of big horses in your pasture you might find they are eating the grass faster than it can grow. If thats the case you'll need to move some horses into another pasture to give this one some time to grow its grass back. Mowing is done from the Farm view page.

My barn/pastures has only 2 horses in it but it says I can't add another?

Every barn and pasture has a maximum amount of horses it can hold. Small ones hold 4 horses, Medium ones hold 8 horses and Large ones hold 12 horses. If a horse is pregnant then she'll take up 2 spaces because the foal will need to have a place once its born. So if you have two pregnant mares in a Small pasture or barn then that are would be full and you cannot add another horse until one is moved out.
