Does anyone have a siler smoky brown purebred Thoroughbred?

Post by Soaring Hooves »

I really love silver smoky browns and I am trying to breed Thoroughbreds. I already have a mare, but I want to breed her with a stallion to see if I can get another one. https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2345124

I do not think that I own one but I can tell you a few things about getting more silver Smocky browns.

By breeding 2 silver Smocky browns together the result will be:
If they are both Z/Z (which means that the horse, even if they are bred with horses that do not have the silver gene, they will always throw a foal with the silver gene) and if they are At/At (which means that their offsprings will always be brown) then the result you are gonna get are: 25% of being a silver brown Cream (not the colour you want) 50% chance of the horse being a Silver Smocky brown and 25% of the foal being just a silver brown.

So it will be a fifty fifty chance of you getting the colour you want IF they are Z/Z and At/At.

If they are not then (Z/Z and At/At, or at least one of them) then the possible colours of the offspring are: chestnut, black, brown, silver black, silver brown, palomino, Cremello, silver Smocky black, smocky black, silver Smocky cream, smocky cream, silver Smocky brown, smocky brown, silver brown Cream, brown cream.

The best combination with the highest success of giving you a silver Smocky brown is a silver brown with a silver brown Cream. Then you will have a 100% chance of getting a silver Smocky brown IF they are At/At (can only produce brown foals) if they are not then again it is 50% but it is highly unlikely that breeding 2 browns will give you a Chestnut/black etc. horse.

That is it , I hope I helped a bit ^^

I have a question: https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2379071
Would you call that a silver smoky brown?
