Need help with this colour!
Post by Veterinarian »
Alright so I have this colt
ℳℐ Shadows My Balance
My thoughts are that he is an Amber Cream ( Cream and Champagne on bay) with the dun ( I think that I can see some faint stripes on his legs, plus when he was born you could see the different colouration on his hair. Also his dam and sire also have the dun gene ) and the silver gene.
But I am not sure ....

I agree with the dun, I also see tiger eye.. But I'm torn between what the base color might be. I can see the silver, but I've seen some flaxen's in this color combination before. I don't think it's chestnut. I could see on bay, but not brown. I could also see on black, because I think I also see faint dapples...Veterinarian wrote:Alright so I have this colt

Champagne and a cream, dun and tiger eye... everything else, I don't know for certain.

I think him being black is not that probable, I have one classic cream - a black base with one cream and champagne (http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1683164) but even if I imagine dun and the yellowish tone of silver layered above I can't imagine this color as a result... also, I think I spy a very faint silverish sheen on his lower legs, so I am more on the side of silver and bay :/ but I am not 100% sure as not few of his closer relatives do have a black base...BlackOak2 wrote:

He's a little bit of a head-scratcher, that's for sure.
Where's Silverine? She always sets me right.

Both Oak and Silverine helped me with this horse. Not sure if he is like yours or not. But that is what he is classified as, but yours has silver mane and tail and is much lighter which throws me off...
Hope this was of some help

Hmm. He is quite interesting. To me he appears to be silver classic cream dun. This is based on what I believe are very faint dapples, and the coloration of his mane and tail before they grew out. His dam is undiluted except for silver, so at most he could have a single dilution at the CP locus, which makes me believe he inherited cream from his sire (who must carry it because his sire was a double cream).BlackOak2 wrote: Can you help with this?
Also, he has some reddish tones on his lower legs that we would only see on a silver black or a chestnut base. That helps me rule out bay or brown.
I could be wrong, but that's my take.
