What are these horse's colors?

Post by horselover0414#2 »

I have a couple horses who's colors I'd love to know the real name for. Here are the links,

I would love to know the color of his eye and the genes to make his red coat that cool of a red (and any other cool facts!)

What is his exact color called? Also, what is his eye color and the black line around his eye?

What are his light spots and why does he have these but has dark tail/mane and other dark points?

Thanks for the help!

First horse is correct with his color label. It just so happens, his genes make his coat this color. It does not appear to be affected by any sooty, so there's a chance his red will pass on to his offspring. He does also appear to have double tiger eye genes, which means all of his offspring will be carriers and if paired with another carrier, may also have tiger eyes as well. Also, when paired with champagne, single tiger eyes may also appear and when paired with a double tiger eye, will always throw tiger eyes.

Second horse is actually a red dun, with double tiger eye. It does also appear this horse has metallic as well.

The third horse is a bit more difficult. Without a yearling picture on these Lp horses, a lot of coat genes often go undiscovered. But it appears this stallion is a palomino dun with a fewspot blanket and tiger eye. The reason it gets very difficult to describe some of the coat genes, is because Lp (leopard complex) horses are also affected by leopard varnish, which changes their coat colors in different ways, sometimes light areas become dark, or dark areas become light, often times mane's and tails turn white or very light... Plus this horse has double tiger eye. The black eye-liner is always there on palomino's (as well as most of the horses), it's just highlighted by the fact that his face is very light and also his tiger eyes, that's all.

The fourth horse appears to be correct in his color as well. He does also appear to have metallic and this horse appears to have a single tiger eye gene, not a double. When paired with champagne, a single tiger eye gene will express itself, but only when paired with champagne. Not all of his offspring will inherit the tiger eye gene. Champagne is very evident by the freckling that appears on the muzzle and around the eyes. Sometimes it's very gentle, sometimes not. As a sidenote, all white horses (called pseudo-whites or false whites) on this game right now are some combination of a double dilute paired with champagne. Tobiano and Lp are the only two execeptions, however neither tobiano (the paints) or Lp (the spotted horses) can offer a full nose to tail white color, there is always some sort of color somewhere.

Just wanted to say that the third horse does not have a fewspot blanket - he has a hip blanket, or just a blanket. A fewspot blanket isn't a term normally used in appaloosas but when used it would refer to the snowcap pattern, meaning how the blanket looks when there are two copies of the Lp gene. Fewspot itself is the term used for full-leopard horses with double-Lp. This site is really great for figuring out Lp terms.

Oops!
I got Lp on the mind! :D

As always, Silverine, thanks for cleaning up after me! 8-)
