He is Smoky Black with appaloosa effects, including bronzing and varnish. Here's an explanation for you based on his gallery pictures:


Newborn. Black base. Paler, grayer body color than on a pure black plus the blue eye tells us he has cream. So he's smoky black.


Not quite 1 year, but close enough to show his adult coat without appaloosa effects would be a deep pure black, as is expected of both undiluted (normal) and smoky blacks at 1-year-old.


Almost 3. His coat has washed out and gotten kind of a gun-metal tint rather than being pure black. It also is a little bit 'cloudy'. Both of these effects are due to his appaloosa spotting. The gun-metal color comes from an effect called bronzing whereas the 'cloudiness' comes from an effect called varnish.
