Deliboz
Post by lessthanfish »
The Deliboz is an oriental pack and racing horse formed in the Azerbaijan region for hundreds of years, and is historically referred to as the Azerbaijan Horse, though this name was actually split between the Deliboz and the Karabakh, a horse bred in the same region. The Deliboz was eventually split from the Karabakh by the addition of Arabian and Tersk stallions.
The breed was officially studied and recognized by scientist in the 1940’s, but today that original line is considered extinct. The modern Deliboz is more akin to a pack animal and pleasure, and although shares many traits of horses from the region, lacks the refinement of the extinct line originally recognized.
The breed averages around 14.2 hh and can be characterized by a short head with broad forehead, thick and sturdy neck and comparatively massive ribbed body. This made them very reliable pack horses in the oriental highlands of the Azerbaijan region; they could easily carry 115-130 kg packs a distance of 45-55km per day in the unstable highland footing, and 70km with a rider. Their ancestry of Arabian and Tersk bloodlines also make them considerably fast racers.
But, perhaps the most notable characteristic of the Deliboz is a lengthwise fold down their tongue, giving it a forked appearance. Registry Accepted Colors
-Black
-Bay
-Chestnut
-Gray
-Dun/Buckskin (including red and grullo)
-Palomino
Deliboz are bred from:
[Kabarda x Arabian] x [Akhal-Teke x Tersk]
Kabardas are bred from:
[Persian Arabian x Turkmene]x[Arabian x Monglian]
Tersks are bred from:
[Kabarda]x[Arabian x Russian Don]
