Grumpy Old Trainers Report

As you've probably noticed the Stable page has been upgraded and the first of many new features has been included. The Grumpy Old Trainer's report (or GOT) is displayed for every horse.
Please note that these are NOT 100% complete. This is because I've added in a new variable for each horse, Build, which is currently not stored in the database but will be soon. So every horse just has a random build until then. Build, Height, Temperament and Gender all effect a horses stats now, both positively and negatively, and this is reflected in the GOT. So since build is random and not properly defined the GOT will change once the build is correct.
A brief description of how Build, Height, Temperament and Gender effect stats: Agility: short, light horses get a bonus Balance: short, heavy horses get a bonus Speed: light, temperamental horses get a bonus Strength: tall, heavy horses get a bonus Stamina: calm horses get a bonus Movement: tall horses get a bonus Tempo: temperamental horses get a bonus Intelligence: calm horses get a bonus Gender: mares are generally a bit shorter, lighter and calmer than stallions and geldings
Remember that the above are NOT set in stone and are likely to be adjusted in the very near future.

Phase 1 Complete

Phase 1 of the game upgrade is now complete. The old forum has been completely disconnected and the game is now running on the new upgraded forum and database. Everything seems to be working okay now but if you notice any errors please let me know asap.
All the links above are now working properly. Slowly the rest of the game will be updated to match this new layout. The layout itself can use a bit more work but the first step is to get all the old pages into this new format and then I can tweak the layout as necessary.

Okay I'm going to start upgrading the forum tonight. Which means that new user sign-ups will be disabled until all pages are converted to the new system. Most of the site is, there are just a few more pages which need to be converted. Everything *should* still work, some things may appear a bit different, but if you notice anything that does not work please let me know asap.

Attention!
Do I have your attention now? I realize its been a long time since something new has been posted here but its time to start some changes.
I'm sure there aren't very many people still playing the game, which is understandable, but in a way its an advantage to me at the moment. You see I'm about to start uploading the new site. Now don't get too excited. It will be a while before you really notice anything major change.
User accounts are managed by the forum software (phpbb) which was upgraded sometime ago from version 2 to 3. However this was a major change to how logins were handled (by the way I use phpbb for account management because they write better security software then I ever could). I couldn't upgrade to version 3 because it would break the rest of the game. I'm now ready to convert our forum to version 3 and upload the revised files. At first you may not notice anything different except the forum. Its mostly behind the scenes to begin with. Once all the changes are made and I haven't broken anything then I'll start converting all pages to the new game layout system. This is when things will start to LOOK different and may get a bit exciting, but new features won't be added just yet. Once all pages are in the new layout, then the really exciting things will start happening. The last few years I've been developing the new features and they are pretty much ready so once the current game is brought up-to-date then I'll just add in those new features.
So basically, expect a lot of things to happen over the new few months, some things may break but I'll be around to fix them asap. I'll try to keep everyone updated on the status of different changes.
These changes may begin as early as today, but possibly not until later in the week. It depends on how today progresses programming-wise.

Reminder About the 3D Demo and Update on New Version

There have been a lot of people recently asking me about the 3D horses or why their horses don't have a photo. I want to remind everyone that there is a demo of the 3D horses available for download at http://www.horseworldonline.net/3Ddemo.zip If I remember correctly the file is around 3megs so it won't take long to download. Currently it shows most of the solid colours and some skin colour changes (mottled noses on Appaloosa patterns etc) but none of the white patterns (paint, appy, roan etc) are added yet. There are socks and stockings on horses however they are a bit bugged right now so nearly every horse has them when some should not. I've included a couple of photos (below) from the demo of pretty colours. Once I get more of the new version of the game ready then I can continue working on the 3D images and they will be imbedded into the website (no download required)
As for the new version of the game, it is coming along much better than I even anticipated. For a long while now (years) I have been trying to create the perfect training system. One that has a simple effect but requires some thinking to reach that effect. I never wanted to create just another game where all you do is mindless clicking to raise a number. There are a few games out there who have succeeded in this but I wanted to offer something much different even from those games. Well, I believe I have finally found this system and so far it is working quite well. The new training system is working on my private test server. Its not complete yet but adding in the remaining features won't take me long and then I'll release if to my private online testing server for my testers to try out. Hopefully this can be started by the end of the week. Keep your fingers crossed. Once I have the final features in and the testers are testing I'll give a more detail write up about this new training.
