So, what your saying is a horse can retire at any age OR is there more to it?
Baranduin is correct (at least I also think this way as well).

Adding to this, a horse with an owner comment of 'retired' can also mean that they are no longer of use to the project they were a part of.

In my case, since I only keep very limited numbers of offspring from each horse, I may retire a mare on her 5th or 6th birthday with only one or two foals and a stud, I may retire as early as their 4th birthday.
Each player is different and handles their own projects differently.

How do you get your horse to become a grand champion, or a champion?

You need to get a certain amount of points from entering player created competitions. How many points you get is determined by what place your horse got in the results.

Here's how many points your horse needs to get each title for a certain discipline (Example: A horse can get a Champion in Racing and a Grand Champion in Sprint Racing):

Champion (Ch.) - 200 points
Grand Champion (GCh.) - 700
Master Champion (MCh.) - 1500
Master Grand Champion (MGCh.) - 3000
Supreme Champion (SCh.) - 4900
Supreme Grand Champion (SGCh.) - 7300
Supreme Master Grand Champion (SMGCh.) - 10000

The ages can very past 25 though, one such example is my 32 year old mare, though her continuous aging is definitely aided by the fact that she is pregnant all the time.
