Thank you. Yes, or maybe the time will show. Maybe hes just somewhat of a surprise and his body lightens up with age. Or he gets sooty too, or something else. xDnyraeia wrote:I see what you are talking about. He looks almost a bit dun-like. There's nowhere he could have gotten it from, though, as his parents are sooty buckskin and sooty palomino.Satinka wrote:I have this pretty colt that really confuses me. To me it looks like his head is darker than his body, what all alone is confusing enough for me, because his parents dont inherit neither dun nor rabicano. So I am only imagining it or does he have dun/rabicano? And if so, what does he have, dun or rabicano? I really cant tell. http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/36720
I think it's probably simply a variation of the palomino colour in-game that gives a tiny bit of greyish cast to the body.
@Jorlanda: I think its a silver brown dun

Any ideas? I was thinking bay dun (maybe fairly pale--"buttermilk dun"), but the shading on the legs and body is fairly curious. Sooty buttermilk dun, or something else? Parents are grullo (black dun) and bay dun.

Dunskin, which is Buckskin plus Dun. Probably Pangaré (= Mealy), too.Revenant wrote:Any ideas? I was thinking bay dun (maybe fairly pale--"buttermilk dun"), but the shading on the legs and body is fairly curious. Sooty buttermilk dun, or something else? Parents are grullo (black dun) and bay dun.

Thanks. So now I know his dad was a smoky grullo.

So here's another horse by the same sire that has the curious red belly/muzzle coloring but without the confusion of the dun and silver:

Here's the first one I asked about again:

ETA: Actually I'm wrong! Those two horses don't have the same sire. I got them mixed up. Anyway, the question is still valid.

This colt is (seal) brown dun. Can you see the darker stripe along his back? This is a hint for Dun.Jorlana wrote:So here's another horse by the same sire that has the curious red belly/muzzle coloring but without the confusion of the dun and silver:

So like Playing the Wildcard but without Silver. :)
The reddish brown belly/muzzle is caused by a form of the Agouti gene. These genes only affect black hair, so they are invisible on chestnut horses. Your horse is theoretically black but the Agouti gene restricts the black colour to everything but belly and muzzle, which is called seal brown or simply brown. Another form of the gene causes bay horses.

Based on the younger pic of the first horse, he looks like a buckskin dun (dunskin) whos greying out, and seems to have silver as well which his pedigree indicates is possible. I would guess the second one is a flaxen red dun.

I'm going to disagree on both the color IDs --
First horse, the one IDed as "Grey hiding Dunskin" looks like a Dunalino in his foal picture to me (pale mane and tail, faint striping on legs, light gold background color). He's definitely Grey, but I think he's hiding Dunalino, not Dunskin (ee CcrC G- D-)
The second horse, the one IDed as "Flaxen Red Dun": Based on the pale red mane and tail, I'm going to say that's an Apricot Dun (ee CC prlprl D-).

Can't be prlprl, the sire is palomino(or pally dun), so no pearl, and even if there was pearl in the dam line somewhere it's wouldn't put a light red mane and tail on a red dun
