Lady Byron's Guide to Training Racing Thoroughbreds

Post by LadyByron »

I thought I would depart some of my training methods as well as other wisdom I have gained over the years for Training Racing TBs. I also will have all of this on my farm just incase you need to reference it and can't find this topic. I hope this helps whoever needs it. Enjoy! :D :D

Note: Level up your training skills as you go so that you can have fully trained horses at age 2 vs age 5 or 6 when you training.

Training Method:

Step 1: Arena + walk + Lunge on flat + 20 mins until energy isn’t yellow for 30 mins

Step 2: Arena + walk + Lunge on flat + 30 mins until energy is around 96% (Tip: Check the smaller durations after 30 mins is in the red to train just a bit long until energy is fully depleted)

Step 3: Arena + walk + collection and impulsion + 30 mins until Movement is at 99.1% at least (Tip: Check the smaller durations after 30 mins is in the red to train just a bit long until energy is fully depleted)

Step 4: Arena + Walk + jumping obstacles + 30 mins until Speed is 99.1% at least (Tip: Check the smaller durations after 30 mins is in the red to train just a bit long until energy is fully depleted)

Now the horse is fully trained!

When I Train:

I train my horses starting at newborns – I put them in a large pasture until they are 2 years – helps with maintaining their weight properly and keeping them healthier. Once they are 2 years, I move them into a barn for the further training and to keep them on the correct weight.

Feeding Method:

I feed my horses Yellow Corn only – in the pasture, I watch their weight every turn I take and make sure their weight stays between 100% - 105% always. I don’t worry about temperament too much here because the Yellow Corn diet will help put their temperament into the Spirited/High strung unless they are bombproof and which case it may never change. Once in the barn at 2 years, I put their feed at 100% - Yellow Corn, if they are already at Moderately Thin. If overweight, I put them on 95% until they reach Moderately Thin and then I put them on 100%.

Racing TB tips:

Must have Moderately Thin weight, must have Spirited to High Strung temperament, must be fully trained and needs to be at least Speed 60 and up.

Confirmations for Completion TBs:

Look for TBs that are Speed 60 and up for use in Completions. Stamina and strength does play a small factor and should be somewhere in the 30s and up, but Speed is the biggest factor in Racing competitions so TBs can still do very well without the perfect stamina/strength factored in.

Grinder TBs:

If a TB’s Speed is 59 – 57 – Train them and use/sell them as Grinders instead. They make perfect grinders as long their weight is Moderately Thin (100% - Yellow Corn). Their Temperament should be Spirited or High Strung but it’s not a must in this case and bombproof temps do well too. Once trained, keep them in the barn always to use them as grinder and do Local Shows – Racing at level 10 for best results.

Breeding TBs:

This is where evals come in handy – the best breeders’ generally have a 3* to 5* for their eval. But if they have a lower eval, I generally breed them to horses that have a 4* to 5* eval so that their offspring can have a better eval.

Great post!
I'm sure that, with the amount of players that do Racers, this will come in very handy to those who don't already know how to do this.

Thank you for the post for the others in this community!

Thanks and you are welcome! :D I also think TB Racers is a great way for newer players to get a good footing in the community and easy to learn on as well as make money from. That's how I did it. Maybe we will get some more TB breeders/Trainers because of it. ;) :D

Yes, both Thoroughbreds and Arabians are great starts in this game, probably because they are both very established breeds. Good stats, good breeds to learn about competing with, and also they both don't have a lot of advanced requirements, so they both make overall great learning projects. Thoroughbreds and Arabians (especially Thoroughbreds), like you said, offer great footing in the community and can make you a good profit if you put the time into them.

Again, nice job.
