Bay? Leopard?
Post by Paitedcloud »
Hey!
What colour is this guy? I thought he was a Bay, but his mane isn't black at all
Unnamed Horse #507453
Also, how do you call this white pattern?

His mane isn't black because he's actually a chestnut ;)
I'd call him a chestnut semi-leopard.
This one is simply a bay with some minimal blanket, I'd call it (but don't rely on me for Leopard pattern names, please) and a few Snowflakes.

Thanks! By the way, the links are switched xD I was asking for the Chestnut's pattern and the other colour, like the mane got me confused

The mane is probably due to the leopard complex and he will go more and more Varnish as he ages

Oh sorry, I must have misunderstood.Paitedcloud wrote:Thanks! By the way, the links are switched xD I was asking for the Chestnut's pattern and the other colour, like the mane got me confused
Yes, Alana is right. Every horse with the Leopard Complex will varnish more and more with age. This also affects mane and tail - they go white.
Silver is visible from day one on black-based horses, see this example:
This is a silver buckskin.
Varnish Roaning is not visible at newborn age and develops with time, that's probably why it confused you :)
Edit:
This one of my horses has the Leopard Complex but no pattern genes, so he only exhibits the varnishing but doesn't have a blanket. You can see the varnish progressing quite nicely in his gallery.
