His mane seems a bit weird
I'm certain he's not silver and I think he isn't a varnish roan but his mane is much lighter than all my other buckskins.

That's varnish from the leopard gene. His sire carries it (look at the spots). Sometimes the leopard gene comes without spots but the varnish is visible. Chipotles foals in turn can express spots or blanket patterns if they inherit his leopard gene.
