What colour are my horses? (Pure_Breeding)
Post by Pure_Breeding »
I have just started up a pure breeding farm with Arabians, Turkmenes and North African Barbs. I have a little knowledge on colours and genetics, but I still need a little help finding out the gene colours of some of my horses.
If any of you are able to help me, that would be awesome!
Knight (2nd Generation Turkmene)

Ranger (2nd Generation Arabian)

Rose (2nd Generation North African Barb)

Mars (2nd Generation Akhal-Teke)
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/3412540
Pine (50% Arabian x North African Barb)

Thank you so much!

Knight is Smoky Black - black + 1x cream. His grayish foal coat indicates the presence of the cream. If he didn't have it his foal coat would have been more red.Pure_Breeding wrote:
Ranger is Gray on a bay base.
Rose is Smoky Brown at base with either dun, roan, or both. It's hard to tell right now.
Also just as a note, it can be difficult determining a horse's color before it hits its first birthday. Generally the best way to be sure of the color is to take a picture at birth and then again at 1 year for comparison. Rose is a good example of this. Once she hits a year it will be much easier to tell if the lightness of her body is due to roan and her dun markers will have grown in. As she is I'm pretty confident she has both but can't be sure until her foal coat has grown out.

Thank you so much! The foals are older now, plus there are a couple more so it might be easier for you to tell the colours now!Silverine wrote:Knight is Smoky Black - black + 1x cream. The only one I wasn't quite sure with was Rose and it is much easier to tell now that she is older. She does indeed have both dun and roan so she is a Smoky Brown Dun Roan.Pure_Breeding wrote:Thank you so much! Thank you! You are amazing! Also, what colour is Pine? I am debating whether to sell him or not...Silverine wrote:The only one I wasn't quite sure with was Rose and it is much easier to tell now that she is older. He's gray, like his dad. But underneath that he's buckskin roan - bay + 1x cream + roan. His mom gave him both the roan and the cream - she's a smoky black (black with a hidden cream).Pure_Breeding wrote: Thank you! You are amazing! Also, what colour is Pine? Three new foals have been born today!!!
First up we have Comet, a +1 Turkmene colt:
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/3434299
Second to be born was Berry, a +1 Arabian Filly:
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/3434465
And, last but now least (also, maybe my favourite) was Lily, a +1 North African Barb Filly:
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/3438222
If anybody could help with the colours of these three new foals, it would be greatly appreciated!

Berry is a Grey on Wild Bay
Lily is a Tobiano Black Dun Roan, you could also call her a Tobiano Blue Roan Dun or Tobiano Grulla Roan.
