How does the tack affect how well a horse will do in competitions? For example, will the tack give this horse a boost in racing?

Tack does not give a boost in competitions sadly. If you check world records or top horses, most do not have it. I'm not that well at identifying colour but I can link a forum that could possibly help with this,

Your horse is a smoky black with Lp. Tentative with dun. Fairly certain about that dun. So a smoky grulla with Lp.

Tack does not give any bonus to competitions and is purely decorative. I think the exception is a couple of Hornacorns that give very small conformation buffs, but those are limited to a few longtime players (idk how they got them- I don't think I was around at the time)
