Iffy Coloring - New Horse Question
Post by KayaineII »
So I probably should have taken a foal pic with this one..
I'm inclined to believe he's black under all the shiny muscles, but he also looks a little chestnut-y to me. Any comments?
Edit: Pic will update eventually...

Breed him to a chestnut mare. That'll prove whether he's chestnut.

Even if he were black, couldn't he still throw chestnuts?Argent wrote:Breed him to a chestnut mare. That'll prove whether he's chestnut.

That's true, but you can try to combat this by breeding him multiple times. If he has four foals by chestnut mares and all four come out chestnut, then it'd be relatively safe to call him chestnut until proven otherwise.KayaineII wrote:Even if he were black, couldn't he still throw chestnuts?Argent wrote:Breed him to a chestnut mare. To me, he looks like he's a black varnish roan, where he's just starting to roan, but I haven't seen a black chestnut on here to compare it to, unfortunately.

I suspect you're right, and he prolly has tiny spots below his mane or somewhere I can't see. I hate it when that happens, but that's what I've been leaning towards.
